Position Overview

Mosaic Flavors' Research & Development team is a driving force behind our commitment to providing exceptional customer service. The Flavorist will create and evaluate flavors for a variety of applications. Position will work closely with multiple departments, including Sales, QA, and Operations, responding to specific customer requests daily. The ideal candidate for this role will have deep knowledge of the flavor industry, flavor chemistry and/or flavor applications.

Essential Functions

  • Creates, develops, and matches new and/or existing flavors from scratch, using essential oils, aromatic chemicals, extracts, and any other flavor raw materials available in the industry, according to customer requests.
  • Duplicates customer supplied flavors, in-house and vendor flavors based on requests received for various purposes, including cost cutting, substitution, discontinuance etc.
  • Experiments flavors in a variety of applications according to customer requests.
  • Ensures newly created formulations comply with bounds of the legislative and regulatory requirements.
  • Provides technical support to other functional groups within the company such as Quality Control, Production, and Sales.
  • Assist in maintaining safety conditions within the workplace.
  • Orders materials and equipment required to maintain the production of current flavors & formulations.
  • Packages and ships sample flavors to customers.
  • Research new trends, practices, and/or raw materials to help with flavor creation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including marketing, sales, and production, to align flavor profiles with branding and marketing strategies.
  • Communicate effectively with suppliers, colleagues, and stakeholders.
  • Perform additional duties as requested by the R&D Director.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • BS in Food Science/Technology, Food Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of flavor chemistry and sensory evaluation techniques
  • Experience in beverage or food product development is a plus
  • Strong knowledge of Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Has excellent ability in taste differentiation and flavor descriptor vocabulary
  • Ability to perform and follow all SOPs and have the initiative to run research experiments independently

Physical Requirements

  • Stand for long periods of time and take frequent walks.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
